For his 1987 novel, Krazy Kat, Jay Cantor borrowed the characters of George Herriman’s sublimely surreal comic strip of the same name and reimagined them as melancholy American has-beens. Now journalist-turned-fiction writer Mark Jacobson has taken Godzilla, that 50-ton paragon of junk-movie culture, and turned him into a dope-smoking, TV-watching, hip-talking antihero with suicidal tendencies. What next? Nancy and Sluggo as yuppie burnouts? Mr. Ed as a racetrack hustler? Jacobson’s Godzilla — here called Gojiro, his Japanese name — shares a few physical attributes with the original Lizard King: size (”five hundred feet from webfoot to cranial dome”), scales, and radioactive breath, but that’s about all.

It’s time to bring classic movies like Kiss Me Kate and Show Boat into the modern age — and we don’t mean remakes. A new mash-up video cut together by YouTube user Nerd Fest UK incorporates footage from 66 films from the Golden Age of cinema and sets them to Bruno Mars‘ infectiously catchy “Uptown Funk.” Thanks to the Internet, we’ve already seen 100 movie dance scenes set to the hit song and 280 films cut together to sing “Uptown Funk.

Last night, ABC aired the very last Eli Stone, and I’m one of a tuh-huh-huh-iiiiny number of people who gives a crapola. But I liked that show! I need more whimsy in my life, and whimsical lawyering is perhaps the very best kind of lawyering. The finale, while not my favorite episode of the often compelling series, provided some nice resolution for Eli and his dad, and I finally grew to like Jordan and Matt’s smarmy relationship, just in time for the show to fully vanish.

One very important (and very fluffy) hero returns to the screen in The Marvels. The upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie will see the return of Goose, the fuzzy feline flerken adopted by Brie Larson's Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel. At first, Carol assumes that Goose (named for the iconic Top Gun pilot) is a normal earthling cat, only to discover that she's actually a flerken, a man-eating alien with Lovecraftian tentacles concealed under all that orange fur.

When Fox embarked on remaking Broadchurch we were promised a different ending, and that promise was kept. In doing so, however, the show lost what made the U.K. version so special. Great American Family isn't taking very long to transform itself into a Christmas-movie factory. The cable network (which happens to be run by former Hallmark Channel chief Bill Abbott) announced on Thursday that it is churning out 18 Yuletide films in just the second year of its rebrand, trailing only holly jolly giants Hallmark and Lifetime in terms of holiday-flick volume. The onslaught of fresh merriment will commence on Oct. 22 with the Black Friday-themed Destined at Christmas and feature at least one new movie per weekend through Dec.

Calling all American Idiots: Green Day is set embark on a stadium tour in 2024 alongside Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Lindas. Billie Joe Armstrong & Co. shared the big news during a secret show at Fremont Country Club in Las Vegas on Thursday night, where they also debuted a new track, "The American Dream Is Killing Me," which Armstrong called "the first song off our new album." A flyer handed out at the show revealed that the tour will kick off in the U.
