'Every Brilliant Thing': EW review

Number 993. ”Having dessert as a main course”. That’s the slip of paper I received at Every Brilliant Thing—a gently moving and wholly unique solo show playing at the Barrow Street Theatre in NYC’s West Village through March 29. Jonny Donahoe, the evening’s cheerful, jazz-loving orator, has passed out several of these slips of paper, which feature phrases as brief as ”ice cream” or ”bubble wrap” to convey our improv-savvy narrator’s best things in life.

'eXistenZ' is like a low-budget version of 'The Matrix'

David Cronenberg’s ”eXistenZ” and the Keanu Reeves hit ”The Matrix” have a plot in common: Both deal with a world where none of the characters can tell whether they’re experiencing reality or an elaborate virtual-otherworld. But aside from sharing this one-sentence synopsis, the two films couldn’t be farther apart. ”The Matrix” features millions of dollars worth of special effects, while the only trace of a special-effects budget in ”eXistenZ” is a brief cameo by a tiny two-headed CGI lizard.

Burge replaces departing series regular Charlie Barnett, whose character Peter Mills recently left Chicago. If Burge looks familiar, that’s because she first appeared in the first episode of Chicago P.D. as a different character. “We’re not playing twins,” executive producer Matt Olmstead says. “It’s different shows, but the same universe.

'Full House,' 'Saved By the Bell,' and other shows that went Hawaiian

We get it, Matthew Weiner: You really love the '80s and '90s. Last season, it became clear that Mad Men's showrunner has a penchant for the alumni of shows like The Secret World of Alex Mack and Clarissa Explains It All. And today, we learned that Weiner plans to kick off season 6 with a storyline familiar to anyone who once worshiped at the altars of TGIF and Nick at Nite: the Hawaiian vacation.
