The music community is mourning rapper Pop Smoke, who was shot and killed during an alleged home invasion early Wednesday morning at the Hollywood Hills home he was renting. The 20-year-old New York rapper had grown in prominence in less than a year through the April 2019 release of his first single “Welcome to the Party.” He is largely credited for putting Brooklyn drill music on the map, as the single was dubbed the song of the summer by rap fans in the tristate area.

Celebrity Family Feud, $100,000 Pyramid, Match Game: EW Review

Once a wasteland of repeats, a dumping ground of busted shows, and a back alley of guilty pleasure (good ol’ Big Brother, sweet as a ripe dumpster), summer TV has been gentrifying into a hipper, greener place over the years. 2015 was ritzy with vibrant cool: Mr. Robot, UnREAL, The Carmichael Show, and Documentary Now! This summer has been trying hard, but the results have been mixed. BrainDead, the broad, horror-tinged political satire from Michelle and Robert King, creators of The Good Wife, tickles my noggin; it’s worth watching just for the meta musical “Previously on…” recaps and its unabashed love for the spectacle of exploding heads.

We actually just went ahead and decided we’re gonna take two, two and a half months straight in the studio to create this thing and not have all this distraction.

Charlie Hunnam and Rami Malek star in the criminally flat prison-escape flick Papillon: EW review

Hollywood conventional wisdom says that if you’re going to remake a movie, it’s better to tackle one that wasn’t very good the first time around. In that sense — and that sense alone — Danish director Michael Noer has succeeded with Papillon. Anyone who’s sat through the 1973 Steve McQueen-Dustin Hoffman prison-escape epic can confirm that it’s one of the snoozier and least memorable entries on either actor’s résumé. As for the new Papillon, it wisely doubles down on high adventure, but it’s still as lifeless as its predecessor.

Charmedrecap: Season 1, episode 16

While Charmed has thrown a lot of big questions at us during its debut season, arguably the biggest has been who killed Marisol Vera. While last week finally unmasked the killer as Charity — the Charmed Ones’ chief ally on the Elder Council and Harry’s on-again girlfriend — this week we learned why. And it turns out, the answer was in yet another of one of the season’s major mysteries. Despite last week’s explosive ending, “Memento Mori” gets off to an almost jarringly subdued start.
