newsDo you remember all the heh-heh-uh-oh industry speculation a couple of years back that really good animation would one day replace the need for live actors? Well, vrooom, baby: In 2 Fast 2 Furious, really speedy cars already have. Oh, there are nondigital handsome and buff young men and women involved in the story — a sequel to the zippy-trash 2001 box office phenomenon ”The Fast and the Furious” that moves the nighttime world of outlaw street racing from L.

Look, not everything can be RuPaul's Drag Race or Survivor. Reality television has spawned quite a few losers since the turn of the century. Some of them were destined to fail just based on concept, while others had a premise that made sense on paper but couldn't quite be executed properly. More often than not, these shows have exploited contestants' insecurities, focused on celebrities whose lives aren't all that interesting, and generally wasted the viewers' precious time.
Happy 2020, stargazers — and happy Capricorn season! Kicking off the new year with the no-nonsense month of the sea-goat always feels like a cross between a cruel cosmic joke, giving us whiplash after the thrills of irresponsible Sagittarius season, and a highly practical gift, kicking our butts into gear as we try to get started on resolutions. We're all trying to use this month to set ourselves up for success (a Capricornian enterprise if there ever was one) in 2020 — including our entertainment choices.
Only three months out from Everything Everywhere All at Once's historic Best Picture victory and a crop of new contenders have already entered the awards multiverse to kick off another hunt for Oscars gold. Because we can't give Jennifer Lawrence another Academy Award simply forwearing flip-flops on a Cannes red carpet, here are 10 (super early) 2024 Oscars contenders to watch as the new season takes shape via film festivals, box office hits, and critical raves of the year so far.
As we inch closer to the 2024 Oscars nominations, the battle for awards season gold is heating up. Like Ken hiding in the backseat of Barbie's car, the fall festivals, Golden Globes, and SAG Awards nominations are firmly in our rearview, and the precursor circuit continues to lift top 2024 Oscars contenders into the race with each passing week (and precursor awards body that announces). The Academy, however, won't reveal its nominations until Jan.
23. Prometheus (Prometheus) USA Coolest Feature: This trillion-dollar vessel echoes the raw functionality of the earlier ships from the Alien franchise. But, it also features a beautiful bespoke lifeboat for company woman Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron), complete with a hologram picture window and an extremely precise medical pod. 22. The SA-43 Hammerhead Endo/Exo-Atmospheric Attack Jet, a.k.a. the Hammerhead (Space: Above and Beyond) Fox Coolest Feature: There are two basic species of fictional spaceship: vessels that are fantastical, and vessels defined by a rough attempt at realism.
The adaptation is the ultimate Hollywood high-wire act. And adapting everything from classic literature to modern pop hits has led to an unfortunate battle between "which is better, the movie or the book?" But in our humble opinion, enjoying both the source material and the adaptation is worth the time as they tend to add to (rather than subtract from) each other. For the viewers and the readers who like their stories to work both ways, here are 23 worthy adaptations.
Daughter, "Doing The Right Thing" (2015) Mike Lawrie/Getty Images Atmosfolk trio Daughter kicked off the walk-up to their January 2016-anticipated album with "Doing The Right Thing," a tale of slipping away into Alzheimer's ether. The tune was inspired by lead singer Elena Tonra reflecting on her own grandmother's struggle and Tonra's ensuing reflection on how its affected her mother. "I'm just fearing one day soon, I'll lose my mind / Then I'll lose my children / Then I'll lose my love / Then I'll sit in silence"
25. The Naked Brothers Band Nickelodeon It's surprising that anything with the Nickelodeon brand would hold such a provocative title. Disney would never allow that! Brothers Nat and Alex Wolff were like little Jonases in training, fronting their own television show and selling albums. The show went off the air in 2009, but the brothers continue in the acting sphere. Nat has starred in films like The Fault in Our Stars (2014), Paper Towns (2015), Death Note (2017), Stella's Last Weekend (2018)—which costarred Alex and was directed by their mother, Polly Draper—and Murder at Yellowstone City (2022), while Alex landed roles in Hereditary (2018), Pig (2021) and Oppenheimer (2023).
