Do not be fooled by its title: the film Burning Man, currently screening at the Toronto Film Festival, has absolutely nothing to do with the popular festival. “I didn’t even know about all that,” says Burning Man‘s star, Matthew Goode. It involves a lot of sun and costumes and time spent out in the northern Nevada desert, EW told him. “I don’t think all that is for me,” he laughs. “Look at this English skin!
Matthew McConaughey began his Sunday afternoon “Conversation” with a SXSW audience on a familiar note. “Hey everybody, alright,” he said, taking his chair in front of a room that included not just fans and colleagues, but his mother and who appeared to be his two young children as well. “Go ahead and say it,” the moderator, Village Voice‘s Scott Foundas prompted. “The first words I ever spoke on film?” McConaughey said with grin.
ACCIDENTS: "Friends" star Matthew Perry drove his green Porsche into the front steps of a home in the Hollywood Hills. Perry (a.k.a. Chandler Bing) swerved to avoid another car on a narrow, windy road and slammed into the front steps of a nearby house. The 32-year-old left the accident unscathed, and there were no injuries. Cops say no there was no evidence of wrongdoing (i.e.: no DUI). Only Perry's ride seems to have suffered in the mishap, requiring the help of a tow truck to remove it from the scene.
Another day, another star-studded anecdote from Matthew Perry's new book. In his forthcoming memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the Friends alum recounts his experience making his first big movie, 1997's Fools Rush In. Directed by Andy Tennant, the rom-com stars Perry and Salma Hayek as a couple who marry after a one-night stand leads to an accidental pregnancy. In his book, Perry recounts how he came up with "
In March of 2016, EW announced Maureen Johnson’s next series, Truly Devious, a saga about an elite (and probably haunted) boarding school called Ellingham Academy and the bright students who try to solve the murder of a classmate (an internet celebrity, no less). But that’s not the only mystery afoot in the trilogy: Edward J. Ellingham, the school’s founder, spent the final years of his life searching for the person who murdered his wife and child in the 1930s and was never successful, even though the killer taunted police for years.
Just to make us even more painfully aware that Where the Wild Things Are doesn’t come out until October, author Maurice Sendak weighs in on how everyone involved in the movie is “kinda goofy, crazy, whacked out” and how director Spike Jonze takes nothing directly from his book but instead “enhances and enriches” his original vision. It’s one of those interviews that plays out exactly like you thought or hoped it might; you’re thinking “say this next!
The King of Rock and Roll is also the king of the box office. Baz Luhrmann's Elvis is tied with Top Gun: Maverick in the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office this week. The Elvis Presley biopic debuted with $30.5 million, while the Top Gun sequel earned the same during its fifth week in theaters, according to Comscore. Austin Butler shakes, rattles, and rolls as the legendary musician in Luhrmann's biopic, which follows Presley's rise to fame and his complicated relationship with his manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks).
In New Girl's first season, Schmidt was introduced as a hilariously high-maintenance playboy with a penchant for saying particularly douchey things (this happened so often he had to put a dollar into the designated douchebag jar whenever he said something particularly offensive) and wearing equally douchey items of clothing (think driving moccasins and Irish walking capes). But over six seasons, we've seen him evolve into the human equivalent of the heart eyes emoji: a loved-up, supportive husband to Jess's best friend Cece, with nary a douchebag jar in sight.
Following in the footsteps of 2014's ultra-successful crowd-funding for a Joan Didion documentary, filmmakers seeking funding to complete a Maya Angelou documentary have started a Kickstarter page. It's also yet another case of "I can't believe a documentary doesn't already exist about this person." Leading the project are two of Dr. Angelou's close friends during her lifetime, Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack. "As friends from Dr. Angelou's inner circle," they write on the Kickstarter page, "
The Witnesses may be back together, but not every relationship in Sleepy Hollow is on the upswing. In a case of unfortunate timing, Crane (Tom Mison) lost partner Abbie (Nicole Beharie) not long after going on his first date with historian Zoe Corinth (Maya Kazan). Now that Abbie has returned from another dimension, it’s time to find out how Crane and Zoe’s relationship fared while he was preoccupied by the search for his fellow Witness.
