Maz Kanata action figure among new 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' toys

1

Star Wars is famous for making practically every background creature into an action figure, no matter how obscure -- Hammerhead, Walrus Man, Snaggletooth, just to name a few. But many major characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens have yet to appear in toy form. Finally, we're getting one of the cooler new aliens in action figure form: Maz Kanata, the 1,000-year-old mystic and barkeep played by Lupita Nyong'o. EW has the exclusive reveal just in time for New York's annual Toy Fair convention on Saturday, Feb. 13...

Here is Maz Kanata in all her glory as a Hasbro action figure, complete with blaster to help fend off The First Order's invasion of her flag-draped castle. The toy includes her headgear with goggles (all the better to see your eyes), but she also comes with much more. For now, Maz cannot be purchased individually, but will be available at an unspecified date this spring as part of the Takodana Encounter 3-75-inch playset, which features three other characters...

Where's Rey? Right here. Daisy Ridley's character is also included in the Takodana Encounter set, alongside trusty droid BB-8. The design is similar to previously released Rey action figures, but those have been selling out nationwide (leaving lots of Constable Zuvio hanging on store shelves, whoever he is). This collection is a chance to round-up not just Maz but also the elusive desert scavenger.

This is a "big deal": John Boyega's runaway stormtrooper Finn is also included in Hasbro's Takodana Encounter set. But sorry, no Wookiee boyfriend for Maz — Chewbacca will have to be purchased separately. The multi-pack, which will retail for $19.99, also comes with a few interesting accessories ...

In addition to the four characters, two blasters, and Rey's staff, the Takodana Encounter playset will have two lightsabers — both of them the blue-bladed one from the movie that once belonged to Luke Skywalker and his father before him. But one will be extended, and the other will just be the handle. The chest from the movie where Rey finds the saber is also included in the multi-pack, with the handle inside (but unmovable.) Now, for two other Star Wars toys being revealed at Toy Fair...

Han Solo would like to get his hands on this: Chewbacca's bowcaster weapon — in squirt gun form. This Nerf Super Soaker, which will be revealed at Toy Fair this weekend and goes on sale in the spring, promises to "help the Wookiee hero Chewbacca battle the evil First Order, soaking targets from up to 38 feet away." It retails for $19.99 and is recommended for ages 8 and up. Those looking to fight for the bad guys also have an option...

Unleash the power of The First Order in 16 fluid ounces of water. This stormtrooper squirt gun (also retailing for $19.99) can blast a stream of water 35 feet, putting it at a slight 3-foot disadvantage to the Wookiee weapon. A wise warrior would buy the bowcaster for yourself, and give the stormtrooper one to your opponent.

Also being showcased at Toy Fair is Hasbro's 12-inch InteracTech Stormtrooper figure, retailing for $29.99. The voice-activated toy is programmed to recite dialogue and make various sound effects in response to the player. And its jet pack and blaster activate light features on the chest, such as a glowing Imperial insignia. Among it's responses: "A trooper should always stay on his feet," when knocked down, and a piercing "Wilhelm scream" sound effect when dropped through the air. "Aaaaaiieeee!"
